Job Title: Project Coordinator (Based at York University in Toronto)
The Latin American Human Rights Education and Research Network (RedLEIDH) is a CIDA-funded six year project which brings together York University’s Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLAC) and Osgoode Hall Law School in a new network of Latin American universities and civil society organizations to promote human rights education, applied research and capacity-building in the region. CIDA will fund activities until March 2010.
Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator will play a key role in the implementation of the initiative including providing leadership in the administration and coordination of projects both in Canada and Latin America, preparing detailed reports to CIDA and communicating with the public.
Qualifications:
• Understanding of the political, economic, social and human rights context of Latin America and Canada-Latin America relations
• Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish, including ability to write complex reports and communicate clearly with Latin American partners and external granting agencies
• Minimum 2-3 years related experience
• University undergraduate degree preferably in Political Science, International Development, Latin American studies or related fields
• Ability to work collaboratively within the project team and with a variety of institutional partners in the region
• Ability to understand and to assist in the preparation of budgets and other financial and project planning documents
• Strong organizational skills, a self-initiating work ethic, flexibility and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to exercise initiative and work both independently and in a team environment
• Experience working in Latin America an asset
• Ability to travel in Latin America
• Authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen or landed immigrant)
Terms: 3 month probationary period and annual contracts renewable for the remainder of the project (approximately 2.5 years)
Work Hours: 5 days per week
Salary: Depending on experience, between $46,000 - $51,000 plus statutory benefits
Start day: As soon as possible.
