ALIRIO URIBE MUÑOZ is an eminent Colombian lawyer with more than 17 years of experience defending human rights and involved in the most serious cases of human rights violations and crimes against humanity committed in Colombia. As specialist in labour rights as well, Alirio Uribe is, for the past four years, the Director of the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights section of the Colectivo de abogados José Alvear Restrepo (CAJAR), one the of most important organization defending and promoting human rights in Colombia. Alirio Uribe is Professor at the INCCA University in Bogota, where he teaches labor law. He taught also at several other universities. Mr. Uribe is currently participating in the follow-up process with the International Criminal Court investigating crimes against humanity and grave human rights violations in Colombia. In 2003, he received the Martin Ennals Human Rights Award for human rights defenders. He has published widely on human rights issues and has carried out research on forced displacement in Colombia and the enforcement of economic, social and cultural rights. Finally, Mr. Uribe is past-President of CAJAR, Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights, and former Coordinator of the Colombian Chapter of the Plataforma Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, Democracia y Desarrollo (Inter-American Platform on Human Rights, Democracy and Development).
